An ash cloud follow up

Now that the dust, (or ash), is finally settling, (pun intended), from the latest series of eruptions from Iceland I thought I'd just give you a quick round up of the news, what's happened, where we're going from here in the short term and what's likely to happen in the future.
To start off with this eruption wasn't anywhere near as bad as last time. The disruptions, if that's what you want to call it, was mostly caused by the media and almost no flights were canceled. The only ones I heard about were a couple of KLM flights coming out of Scotland. None of England was affected at all. I think the only other country to suffer any disruptions was the north of Germany and obviously Iceland itself.
In this we were helped both by the measures and lessons put in place/learnt last year and the weather itself which helped disperse the ash much more quickly last year. So far so good, (unless you were on one of the canceled flights that is), with everything now almost back to normal. But here's the bad news......
According to all experts Iceland is now entering into what's called an active Volcanic period which means we can expect this on a much more frequent basis compared to previous years. As I've already said the disruptions of last year were unusual in their extent but there's absolutely no guarantees that this can't or wont happen again.
So what does this mean for your holiday plans. Well speaking from a purely biased standpoint I'd recommend booking cruises leaving the UK for all your holiday plans for the next few years, (hopefully through me), but speaking honestly I'd say make sure you've got adequate travel insurance, (some policies don't cover eruptions classing them as an act of God and thus not insurable), and be prepared for things to go wrong with a possible back up plan in place if your flights are delayed/canceled.
So were any of you affected by this years ash cloud? Or last years? How did you think the one compared to the other and more importantly are you more or less likely to book flights now? Has this made you look at cruising in a new light? Let me know your thoughts here.

Happy cruising, (out of the UK?)
