O.k., so just got back from my honeymoon and wanted to give all the prospective grooms out there a bit of advice……… Don’t let your wives to be book the honeymoon for you!
I came home from work to be told she’d found an amazing last minute deal and had booked it on the spot. Now to be fair it actually did look like quite a good offer but after reading through it I asked why she had booked an inside cabin, rather than an outside.
‘Oh well, I didn’t want to be outside on my honeymoon it would be far too cold’.
Hmmm, this from the fiancé of a cruise consultant.
Now, I’m sorry but I don’t actually have any pictures of the honeymoon itself, we were both far too busy …………. sight seeing , but the ship we were on does bring us to an interesting point, cruising on a ferry as opposed to cruising on a ship.
Now on the face of it this might sound like a bit of a non-brainer, ferries are small flat bottomed boats designed for shuttling people across rivers, whilst cruise ships are floating palaces of opulence designed for sailing around the world. Right?
Unfortunately not quite. A lot of smaller operators, especially on 2-3 day ‘party cruises’ are increasingly offering more of a ‘ferry style’ service. So, what does this mean in real terms and what can we do to avoid it?
Always check that there is something to do during the day. If your out at sea all day and none of the bars or entertainment opens till 5:00pm you have a long day ahead of you of just sitting in your cabin or walking around the decks, not as fun as it sounds if you have young children to entertain.
Google the ship name, read other peoples reviews. Check the opinions of real passengers rather than corporate brouchers.
And always remember if the price seems too good to be true, there might be a reason for that.
As always, let me know what you think and happy cruising.
