I was talking to a sales rep recently from Disney cruise lines, chatting about some of the features of the Disney ships.
We don't sell loads of Disney cruises here in the UK, (it's a predominately American market), however this seems like a shame as they do sail in the Mediterranean and some of the features of their ships are amazing. Possibly one of my favourite innovations is their magic portholes.
On all their inside cabins Disney have installed a round LCD T.V disguised as a porthole with a live feed to the outside of the ship. Your 'view' will be broadcast from the nearest outside cabin so you'll be able to see the same thing as anyone booked in a traditional outside cabin.
However, (this being Disney), every so often you'll find a Disney character peering through your porthole at you.
How clever is that? And what a great idea for families/kids in the cabin!
This seems like such a simple idea that I can't believe more cruise lines haven't rolled it out over their fleets, (minus the Disney characters peering in at you of course). Especially as at night you can just turn the 'porthole' off to give the effect of pulling the curtains.
What do you think? Would this entice you into booking an inside cabin? I know a lot of people avoid them due to a sense of claustrophobia but I can see this idea really helping in alleviating that.
Here's hoping more cruise lines adopt the idea!
Happy cruising
