I might not know art but I know what I like

For those of you who follow my cruise blogs regularly you will know Crystal cruises have just started a series of debates on the ships between different groups of professionals and experts for the entertainment of its passengers. For those who didn’t read the blog I’m assured it won’t be anything like a Jerry Springer show. At the time I wondered if this sort of entertainment was appropriate for a cruise ship and if the passengers would enjoy it. I also wondered how long it would be before other cruise lines started to move away from the traditional type of cruise ship entertainment and start offering something new. Well it looks like Princess are first of the mark with their new modern artist shows coming up over the next few months.
Princess Cruises has announced that it will play host to a number of top contemporary artists during a series of special sailings over the coming months. The series will begin with a 12-day Mediterranean cruise on the Ruby Princess on July 4th, followed by itineraries in North America, the Aegean Sea, south-east Asia and other regions before the end of the year.
Although the art work will be available to buy, this will differ to the traditional cruise art auctions in several key ways.
Each voyage will have at least ten modern artists per voyage. Painter Howard Behrens, sculptor Bill Mack and marine life artist Wyland will all be participating in the programme, as well as Michael Godard, who is described by Princess Cruises as a "rock star of the art world”. Jan Swartz, executive vice president of Princess Cruises, said: "These special sailings offer our passengers the opportunity to go behind the art by meeting the artists and learning more about what inspires their work. Passengers often find a new artist whose work they enjoy, or learn more about one they've admired. Others simply like exploring the world of art and the work of an artist."
Art auctions, over the last few months, have gained a bit of a bad reputation with cruisers being sold overpriced or in some cases, forged artwork.
Will meeting the artists provide a better, more entertaining, experience, and will it encourage more people to buy.
What do you think?

Happy Cruising
