Live ammo found beneath Seattle cruise port
Port of Seattle police divers have called in explosive experts after discovering ammunition beneath the city’s busy cruise ship terminal.
This is the second time since September that divers have discovered ammunition.
The US navy used Pier 91 area as a supply depot during WW2 and up to the early 1970s.
Back in September just gone all the divers found were some harmless empty shells and training rounds, but there was also some 'undefined projectiles' containing highly explosive materials.
This was my favourite bit of the report though; whilst inspecting pier pilings another 'projectile' was discovered and army experts were called in. It is believed to be live but because of the amount of corrosion we're not sure how dangerous it is.
Now given that thousands of cruise passengers pass through this pier each year I would of quite liked the report to state what kind of 'projectile' had been discovered and how dangerous it was.
Was it a bullet?
A missile?Was it a bullet?
An atomic bomb?
There's a bit of a difference between them isn't there? But just to make you all feel better the report ended with the statement "The US army, navy and coast guard, in conjuction with Port of Seattle police are now working out what to do next".
So that's all right then.
Happy Cruising
