Well, it’s been an amazing year with lots of new ship launches to enjoy, from NCL’s Epic right through to Cunard’s QE, there’s been something for everyone and there’s still one more to come, (the Allure of the Seas), towards the end of this year. But today, for your eyes only I’m going to be taking a sneak peak at some of the cruise ship launches coming up for next year.
The first launch for next year will be the Disney Dream on the 26th Jan 2011. She’ll be capable of carrying 2,500 passengers, with a similar theme to the existing Wonder and Magic ships, (classical 1930’s ocean liners), with adult only areas and, obviously, a focus on family activities. Another ship, the Disney Fantasy should follow sometime in 2012.
One of the next launches of 2011 will be the Carnival Dream, sister ship to the existing Carnival Magic and much of what is to be found on the Magic will also be found on the Dream. Included will be the 11,250-square-foot adults-only Serenity area; Seaside Theatre; a massive "Cloud 9" spa; WaterWorks aqua park with a 303-foot-long, four-deck-high corkscrew waterslide and special family cabins designed to accommodate five passengers. Another ship the Carnival Breeze will follow in spring 2012.
Next on our list is the Seabourn Quest, launching in June 2011. Sister ship to the Seabourn Odyssey, launched in 2009 and the Seabourn Sojourn, launched back in June, this is one of the launches of 2011 that I definitely want to see – Six star luxury at it’s best. At 32,000 GRT and with a passenger capacity of just 450 these ships are actually larger than Seabourns other mega-yachts.
Celebrity Silhouette will be the next launch, in the autumn of 2011 and she will be the fourth ship in Celebrity Cruises Solstice class, which includes Celebrity Solstice ( launched in November 2008), Celebrity Equinox (summer 2009) and Celebrity Eclipse (April 2010).
Celebrity Silhouette will share the design and layout of its sisters, offering now-popular features like the Lawn Club with its real grass and glass-blowing studio, multiple onboard restaurants (everything from French to Asian-fusion) and a futuristic disco. Like her sister ships she will also boast large standard cabins, 90 percent of which will be outsides; 85 percent of all cabins will also be fitted with balconies.
A fifth solstice class ship, the Celebrity Reflection is also scheduled for launch in November 2012.
Next up is the Costa ship Favolosa, penned in for a July 2011 launch. At 114,500 gross tonnage and 3,780 total guest capacity she is the fourth of five new ships due for delivery between 2009 and 2012, for a total investment worth 2.4 billion Euros. The addition in spring 2012 of the Costa Favolosa’s sister ship Costa Fascinosa will complete Costa’s ambitious fleet expansion program.
Then, taking an even further sneak peak ahead, the MSC Fantastica is set for launch in May 2012 NCL have two, as of yet unnamed ships, set for launch April 2013 and 2014 and Princess have two, again unnamed as of yet ships for spring 2013 and 2014.
So which one are you most looking forward to?
Happy Cruising
