Following on from my blog reporting that next year Holland America will be introducing a crossword themed cruise, I have just learnt that fresh for 2011 MSC will be offering several chess themed cruises for those looking for a slightly more cerebral experience whilst onboard.
Their press release reads:
With this special themed MSC cruise, guests can learn how to play and improve their skills in this ancient strategic game. Chess, the ‘Game of Kings’, dates back to Medieval times and represents a way of life that is no more; learn how the chess pieces reflect the social structures of the times and how the real life dramas of the era are dramatised in this compelling game. With expert instruction from the Arcoworldchess team and the tranquillity of the ocean as your backdrop, guests will enjoy the ideal setting in which to prepare a concentrated mindset as you master your game alongside your like-minded fellow travellers.
The programme will include beginner and advanced level courses held by international chess directors, in depth studies of technical terms, rules, history of the game and tips for improving your own game. They plan to hold daily whilst onboard for players of all levels, to be organized by their certified chess directors, with prizes for tournament winners.
Subscriptions will be taken on board with several sailings offering this program;
The MSC Opera on the 16th September 2011,
The MSC Melody on the 07th March 2011
The MSC Poesia on the 06th March 2011 and
The MSC Sinfonia on the 23rd October 2010
For details on this, or any other theme cruises you may seen, give me a call.
Happy Cruising
