No I'm not going mad there really is a room on the Independence of the Seas called the cow room.
Once again continuing with my series of posts I'm writing about the little known features of some Royal Caribbean ships.......... did you know the Independence of the Seas has a cow room?
It's a PR grade room which for those of you who haven't been on a Royal Caribbean cruise stands for a promenade stateroom. You may or may not know that the bigger Royal Caribbean ships have a promenade running through the middle of them with shops, restaurants and bars all along the length. At times it's hard to remember you're even at sea. During the day they sometimes have shows and parades that go up and down as well for the entertainment of the guests.
Anyway, when they were designing this Royal Promenade as it's called they decided to make it three decks high and any inside cabins that overlooked it were fitted with windows so that you could see out over the promenade and 'people watch'.
One of the shops along this promenade is a Ben and Jerrys ice cream parlour and as part of their advertising they have a big plastic cow on the awning above their shop. Unfortunately this slightly blocks the view of the promenade stateroom directly above it, as you can see from the picture. This then is the Cow room.
To compensate for this slightly obstructed view anyone in this room gets free Ben and Jerrys ice cream all cruise and to continue the theme Royal Caribbean have decked the room out with a cow hide theme and pictures of cows on the wall.
It's the only room of it's kind on the ship so it's normally quite hard to book but the next time you're looking at a PR grade room on the Independence of the Seas and you fancy something different why not ask your travel agent if it's available to book?
Happy cruising
