Dietary requests on a cruise ship

A lot of people worry about their dietary requirements on a cruise ship.
I don't just mean worrying about what the food will be like but about specific requests like Halal or Kosher food. You may be vegetarian or a vegan; you may have a lactose or wheat intolerance; you may even be deathly allergic to certain food groups.
Well you don't need to worry, comparing it to a land based holiday nothing could be easier to manage for you.

Almost all food requests can be catered for by a cruise line. If it's something simple like being a vegetarian you don't even need to notify anyone, all cruise ships will have vegetarian options on all their menus.
If it's something slightly more complicated like a religious dietary request like Halal or Kosher food you will need to request it at the time of booking, (although it's worth noting the cruise lines normally only offer Kosher food. I've never found a cruise line that would offer Halal).
Food allergies are just as easy to deal with. If you're allergic to something unusual like pineapples or mars bars you can notify the cruise line although it might be easier to just manage yourself, checking the list of ingredients with your waiter every night. If it was something more common that you're allergic to it's always worth noting it on the booking so that the cruise line can prepare for it specially.
Lastly is an intolerance to certain food stuffs like lactose, wheat or gluten. Whilst the cruise lines can cater for this with no problems it's always advisable to let them know before hand so that they can prepare by bringing speciality food, (like soya for instance), onboard in preparation for your cruise.

So in summary never worry about taking a cruise if you have special dietary requirements, it will all be taken care of for you and the cruise lines will bend over backwards to help accommodate your needs.

Happy cruising.
